The Reason You Should Never Get A Job (NSFW Rant)

It used to be that you needed to go to university and study for 3, 4 or 5 years. Here you would spend your time getting wasted while partying and learning how to work in a bureaucracy and learning skills like Excel, accounting, and so on. That is what I learned in university, it was “very” educational.

After you graduate university then you go apply for the opportunity to get a job and then it takes you months to get the job and the job you get is unrelated to the degree that you got. Now you have a job and what happens next?

Next, you get a mentor at work, which is great, who has been doing the work for 20 years and he has moved up a few steps in those 20 years and makes about 50% more money than you. He is not teaching you how to become an entrepreneur, but he is teaching you how to work in a bureaucracy and how to become what he is right now.

All the time you get told one thing, “What do you want to do, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what do you want to become, and where do you see yourself in five years?” You tell them your dream and early on you tell them the truth of what you actually want to do like traveling, seeing the world, and doing a lot of cool and interesting things while meeting interesting people. That is probably what most people actually want to do.

But they tell you, “What is that? That is not a dream. That is nothing. You want to become an accountant.”

So what do you actually want to do?

Get into business or go into a company and be mentored by someone who teaches you that you need to pay your dues because they worked really hard to get where they are and once you reach their age you will understand? Do you want to listen to those guys and listen to how to become them? Do you want to be depressed at the age of 40 or do you want to do what you actually want to do?

Do you want to create a business, travel the world, see places, meet people, hang out with positive people who are working on change, or do you want to be part of the change? Do you want to be the person behind the steering wheel or do you just want to be a pencil pusher in an office in a cubicle – which is how most people in offices work these days?

I cannot believe that this is still the case and that people are still in traffic where they spend maybe more hours per day. You do not have to do that because you have the opportunity to do what you feel like doing.

This is all great, but what is the solution?

The solution is look at people who are doing the non-traditional route. Look at the people who are being ridiculed for, “What are you doing? This is going to fail, you should not do that but you should get a job first.” Look at what those people are doing. Some of them actually have success and when you see success you can replicate success. You can replicate almost any success out there.

It does not matter what kind of talent you have, the background you have, and it does not matter what kind of parents you have or what they tell you because they lived in a different time and most people are stuck in a different time. They are stuck in the past and you do not want to be stuck there. Why would you want to be stuck in the past?

For me, I have been travelling the world as an entrepreneur for four years and I have been in business for eight years. You do not want to go to a job, trust me. I did that for eight months out of my adult life, not counting being a student of course, and it sucks. You learn maybe some things and some sales, which sales are a valuable business skill, but it is not really fulfilling. There is always this empty feeling like your soul is being sucked out of you slowly but surely as the months go by.

Keep moving forward

Go talk to the people that have a job and you will see they are kind of settled in and not moving forward. When you stop moving forward, that is when you start dying. People die because they do not move forward. First they die on the inside, then their body dies. This sounds very negative, but that is the way it is.

Do you really want to live the traditional life where you study, get a job, and the retire where you go into an old folks home where you have maybe 1.9 children come visit you every few years? Do you really want that traditional life? It is not very appealing to me. Of course you can point out the people who are happy doing that, and that is fantastic, but for me, I am not satisfied with a life like that. I do not want to comply with those social norms and listen to the teachers who were supposed to help me and told me to do that.

I do not want to do that, and this piece is to tell you that you do not have to do that either. There are opportunities out there and you can take them.
