It’s not a big secret what the skill is. People who are in business will tell you immediately. Almost everyone will tell you. Some people say it’s copywriting, some will say it’s marketing. But in my opinion sales is the answer. The skill of sales will get you money; it will get you on your feet anywhere and it will build almost any kind of business. So what can you do if you have the skill of selling?
If you’re working for someone else right now and you know how to sell, in my opinion you’re wasting your time. You should be building your own business because the product, the service that you can be selling, is not so hard to get anymore. The product and service is not so hard to create: you can outsource very, very easily these days.
Get Someone Else To Do It, You Get The Money
Just to give you a few examples, you can outsource website creation. A lot of people I know don’t make the websites themselves. They outsource this service through freelancing platforms like odesk.com (now upwork.com) and freelance.com; contacting people in Eastern Europe, India, and South East Asia (countries like the Philippines).
Another example of what you could sell is an SEO service. You can outsource SEO services for just $50-$150 a month in India. You can sell this service for $600 in an English speaking country. Maybe if you were in Germany or in France, it would be a little bit more expensive, but it’s still completely manageable.
These services and skills are not as valuable as they used to be, but selling is – actually, getting a sale is. If you can get the sale, you can get 90% margin on a service like that. All you have to do to achieve this, is manage the clients and deliver the service.
A third kind of service I’ve seen work, is actually a bit more like a product, such as a video. So you go to a company and you offer them a video. You can make this video, you can outsource it, or you can make it with a software called video maker fx. Video maker fx allows someone with zero video making skills to create an explanation video. For example, words appearing on the screen, graphics, fake handwriting etc.
You could sell this to anyone who owns a business, who has landing pages, who is advertising on Google. If you put a sales video or explanation video on your page, it is usually going to work much better to convert leads. It’s a very easy sale, to be honest.
So if you can offer something like that, you don’t need some amazing product or service as long as you can sell. That’s the most important thing.
Replicate From The Best
Another thing you can do is go to people’s websites. Go to people’s websites who are paying money to advertise on Google, paying money to be advertising in the yellow pages etc. Look at their website, look at the top guys’ website in the most expensive markets like LA, New York and learn lessons. Make a list of what they did to their website, that websites in the lower paying markets, where they spend less money in marketing, did not do. Contact the guys in the lower paying markets, lower value markets, and offer them a service to improve their site to look more like those in the higher end.
They are spending money anyway, right? So they are getting clients from this, most likely. And if you can improve their site, improve their landing page, you can make them a lot of money, and you can make yourself a lot of money. You don’t need a lot of fancy skills for this. You just need to use your brain and do some research.
Be Creative
So these are just some of the ideas. Of course, someone with sales skills and an entrepreneurial mindset can find a million ideas like this. It’s not so hard finding the ideas. The hard part is developing the sales skills. In order to become better at it, you’ll need to be making at least 150 phone calls per week. You’ll also need to be coached by someone. If you want to increase the speed at which you improve your sales skills, you want to be surrounded by people who are also into sales. You’ll learn much faster with their constant feedback.
