How To Find Your Passion (The Truth)

This topic is important because if you are able to discover your passion and what you are passionate about, you are able to lead a life that is more fun. People are going to be more drawn toward you because they can see the passion. Anything you do, any work or art, will come off as more authentic and more interesting. People will pay you more money for whatever you are selling. People will want to be your friends and do other things with you. That is the benefit of passion.

If you can’t find your passion, it’s okay. Most people can’t find their passion in life. Out of every 10 people I know I would say only one person is leading a life or they are following their passion, or even had found their passion.

Why am I talking about this?

This is because I have coached hundreds of people in business, entrepreneurship, and sometimes self-development when they need it. This question is asked over and over because it is super important according to news articles, books about success, and biographies about famous entrepreneurs. All of these say that passion is super important.

How do you find your passion?

The very first thing is reframing that question. Let’s look at it in a different way. Traditional people always say that you need to go out, look around, and try different things over time to see what you are passionate about and once you found what you are passionate about then you suddenly are in the holy land of glory and everything works out while people throw money at you.

Fortunately and unfortunately, that is not how it works. You need to develop your passion. To be able to find your passion you need to develop it. To get to become passionate about something you need to invest time, energy, and usually even money into it. When you start getting good feedback from doing whatever it is that you are newly passionate about, you become ever more passionate about it.

What is passion actually?

Passion is when I get up in the morning and I am super energetic and eager to work on something. Whereas, if I am not passionate about it, work becomes kind of a grind and I don’t really want to do it. When I am passionate I am excited to go do the work right now, every single day. Every single day is a slight exaggeration though, because you cannot be passionate about something 24/7, 365 days a year.

You need to always be passionate – the myth

A second common misconception people have about being passionate about something is that you are just always passionate about something. It actually kind of comes and goes. That is why I try to rely on me being passionate about the thing to do it anyway. When I am implementing something and working on something, this passion make me complete my task no matter what. Good or bad about it, I get it done either way.

The next day I feel passionate about it anyway. It comes and goes. I know this is kind of controversial and some people think that if you’re passionate about something then you will always be passionate about it, but this is not true in my experience. Your experience may be different, but mine is definitely not like that.

Because it goes away sometimes, I feel like you appreciate it more when it comes back. You may have a different opinion, but that is what works for me and my clients.

Why this works

One of my clients went to Asia and was getting almost $8000-$9000 per month in sales. He was passionate about this new business that he was building, but he had to go to the hospital because he got sick. During that time he lost momentum in his business and doing what he was passionate about. When he started doing it again it was really hard to start doing it again and he could not feel all that passion.

What actually happened was he lost momentum, not the passion. I told him to get some sales and start building momentum. As he started getting one, two, three sales, he came back to me and said that his passion and come back. This is perfectly normal.

Set up your life to compliment your passion

The third aspect of passion is that if you want to be passionate about something, you need to set up your life around it. You want your life to support the thing you want to be passionate about.

What do I mean by that?

If you are passionate, or want to be passionate, about building a business or new hobby, and your whole life is a pure disaster, you are not going to have the energy, good nutrition, and focus needed to succeed. You need to set up your life to work together with what you were trying to do with your goals. If your life is not set up that way you’re not able to wake up and experienced those good emotions or good feelings.

For me, I almost always wake up at the same time. I eat and go to the gym at the same time while traveling a lot. A lot of the things I do are scheduled and then happen at the same time each day because our bodies are made that way. When we do everything that is scheduled and turn everything into good habits, what happens is we are able to allocate a lot of our mental energy toward something that we want to be passionate about. Then we are able to create awesome consistency! Awesome consistency and positive feedback from your environment or from whatever you are doing, leads to passion.

You can conclude that I like to focus on things that build my passion, but not in a direct way. I make it so passion is a side product of the consistency and momentum that I am building matched with the stability in my life. At the same time I am doing new and interesting things while learning new interesting things and feeding that into my passion. I have been passionate for eight years consistently about entrepreneurship and what happens is that everything that I do feed into that passion.

If I am going on a holiday and relaxing, I make it so when I come back I feel like I have more energy to put back into my passion. If you build your life like that it gives you purpose and people can sense it. If people can sense it, people will gravitate toward you. I highly recommend that you try out the same techniques.

Implement these three things I mention and you will see a crazy change. Suddenly, if you are able to allocate enough time, focus and are able to work on your passion date in and day out, you’ll feel good about anything you want to achieve. That is how people become really good at chess, math, business, entrepreneurship, or whatever people want to do. You can choose what you want to become passionate about, build your life around that, and achieve it. That is how it works according to me and according to my coaching of people and getting results. I hope this fantastic system can help you too.
