How Jeff Build a $15k/Mo Creative Agency (Explainer Videos)

I wanted to share with you a great story from one of Business Mentor Insiders (BMI) members, Jeff.

Jeff runs an agency that makes animated explainer videos for clients. Jeff has been in business for almost 3 years and his business has achieved a great growth rate. They are currently doing about $15K in revenue each month with 60% profit margins.

Before he joined BMI he was living in Canada and working as a boxing instructor. He knew he wanted to start an online business but wasn’t sure if he could pull it off. That’s when he found out about BMI and decided to join the program.

How Has Jeff Managed to Build a Successful Business?

Jeff joined BMI at the end of 2016. The first thing he learned was how to implement successful sales funnels. He first found success using the Upwork funnel and now he is also implementing the LinkedIn sales funnel that he learned through BMI. Jess says that one of the great things about BMI is that everything in the program that you are taught has been proven to work for other business owners. This gives you peace of mind that if you put in the time and effort into building your business it will have a high chance of succeeding. 

Jeff says that learning how to use the BMI “consultative sales process” has been really valuable for him and his agency. The process is to basically get on a call with potential clients and then counsel them on how you can help them and you show the client that you understand the problems that they want to solve. Jeff says that making sales using this approach as opposed to using aggressive sales techniques has been really successful for him and his agency.

Jeff also started to use LinkedIn to find new clients. He says LinkedIn is a good place to find new business connections and build business relationships with people. In addition to that, LinkedIn can be used to get inbound leads, because business owners on the platform are looking to buy. He found that LinkedIn was much better to use for business than YouTube, as most people only use YouTube for entertainment purposes.

Through BMI Jeff learned to focus on having a high-quality product, it doesn’t make sense to try and compete only on price. He has made sure that he is not just doing template-based animation videos like everyone else. He wants to differentiate from the crowd by offering a high-quality product that clients will pay a premium for.

Jeff is not a good animator himself, but he learned how to hire the right people to work for him to help with the project delivery side of the business. Everyone in Jeff’s team can work remotely from wherever they want. They have certain processes in the business so that they can ensure projects are delivered to a high standard. He makes sure that everybody knows what they need to do before the project starts. This means that there is no going back and forth in each project, so everything is done in a very cost-efficient way. Jeff can now spend his time keeping clients happy by ensuring that they are receiving a high-quality service.

According to Jeff, selecting the right people is one of the most important things that you need to get right when you are building your business. Your success as a business owner is directly linked to your ability to select the right people. If you hire the wrong people, then no matter what you do, what techniques you use, or what efforts you put in, it is not going to make very much difference. He says that it makes sense to pay more if it means you can hire a higher quality freelancer. It will save you time and money in the long run as you won’t have to fix up mistakes all the time.

How Has Life Changed for Jeff?

Jeff says that now his agency is established he can choose to live and work from wherever he wants. He is currently living in Mexico by the beach and can run the whole operation online. For the past couple of years, he has moved to a new destination to live every three months and is really loving the life that he has been able to build.
