How to Hire a Virtual Assistant (Better Than Upwork)

Have you noticed how some business owners waste lots of time doing menial and repetitive tasks, when they could be spending that time on more important tasks that move their business forward and make them more money?

The best way to make this change is to outsource these tasks to virtual assistants. They will be able to do most of the jobs better than you anyway as it is their specialty, leaving you to work on better things and improve your productivity.

Many of the traditional hiring techniques that used to work for online business owners no longer work well. For example, in the past you could use UpWork.com to find assistants, you would get 200+ applications and be able to find great candidates who could do the job well for a low price. However, with more and more freelancers now in the market it's become harder to find high-quality candidates to hire as virtual assistants at a good price. More effort is required in your hiring process now!

What Is the Best Way to Hire A Virtual Assistant?

Go on UpWork

You can still go on UpWork and find good candidates. You won't get 200+ applicants but you will still find good candidates and can test them out on trail projects. You will have to pay the best candidates about $6 to $25 per hour, which is much more than you could pay in the best for top candidates.

Check out Onlinejobs.ph

You can use this site to hire virtual assistants in the Philippines for $200 to $1000 per month. It's cheaper than hiring people in western countries and people in the Philippines speak good English. The downside is that you don’t get many good applicants and they are only assistants in the Philippines which might be a problem if you need to work with people in a different time zone. You will also have to also get to know the culture well to work with virtual assistants from there.

Use JobBoardFinder

My favorite way to hire now is to hire people “locally” by placing job adverts on their local job websites. You can use JobBoardFinder to find local job websites in countries from around the world. For example, you can find the best-ranked job website in Serbia and post job adverts for virtual assistants. The locals who use these sites will be just as qualified as people on UpWork but will charge much less for the job. Often, they want the opportunity to work internationally and remotely from their home country so only demand salaries slightly higher than what they would get in their home countries, but not too much that they become unaffordable.

In Serbia, a web engineer might expect to be paid $200-600/month working for a Serbian company, so they will take on a job for $400 per month working remotely for an international company.

The Bottom Line

There has been a big increase in demand for people who can work online and remotely. This has led to an increase in the cost of hiring people online, even to do reasonably simple tasks.

If you want to get the best people, look to hire locally by placing job adverts on their local job websites. You will find great virtual assistants at a great price. It is a win-win for both parties.
