How Much Can You Make On Upwork?

So you’re either thinking about freelancing or you’ve decided to. Or you’re already a business owner looking to expand your pipeline.

The obvious place to start is the largest freelance marketplace in the world, Upwork.

There’s no place like Upwork, where a newbie freelancer can find clients in less than one week.

But you wonder how much can you make on Upwork. Perhaps you’ve done some research and seen that the vast majority of freelancers get paid garbage.

And this makes sense, since they go about upwork in the worst way.

Then there are the top tier freelancers and business owners who earn a lot of money.

They’re able to bring in $5,000, $10,000 or even $20,000 per month and a lot of the time, they’re not even doing all the work themselves.

So the answer is YES, you can make a lot of money on Upwork but only if you do it the right way and avoid the mistakes of 99% of the people on Upwork.

The beginning: $0 – $5,000

$5,000 isn’t easy, it’s a lot of work to get started but ANYBODY can do it if they follow the right steps.

First: you need to deliver a fantastic service that makes clients happy to give you money.

This will be one of the biggest if not the most important difference between you and the majority of freelancers on the platform…

That’s because most freelancers compete on price, instead of on value.

You see, if you provide a value that is worth in excess of $20,000 or more…

Do you think your clients will have a problem paying you $2,000,-$5,000?

Of course not, but most freelancers don’t think like this. They put their focus on discounts and price wars, a race to the bottom that keeps them poor.

But not you. You must deliver a valuable service that delivers good return on investment for your clients. And this is hard, it’s not easy to deliver valuable services and when you do, many people are afraid to ask for a lot of money.

Second: You aren’t an employee, you’re a consultant.

You need to see yourself as a consultant/business owner. YOU have skills that they, the client, needs and they can’t do it themselves.

Remember: Employees don’t get paid well, but consultants/business owners do. Be an expert, have expert skills and ask for expert pay rates.

And the final skill you will definitely need to rise above the mass of average freelancers on upwork is…

Third: Develop Razor Sharp Sales Skills

Once you’ve developed your skillset, you must get good at selling clients on your services on a skype call.

There’s no way around this. Like I said, most freelancers “sell themselves” by cutting their prices and offering discounts.

Not you. You must present yourself as the premium provider with testimonials and case studies that prove you provide value (i.e money) for your clients.

(In my Business Mastermind insiders, we teach you a proven sales process that has worked for newbies and seasoned veterans for closing high quality clients.)

Once you’ve developed the fundamentals, then the real fun begins when you start earning….

$10,000, $20,000 and above

When you begin to make some decent money, then things really get good.

You now have the capital to outsource a lot of the easy yet time consuming work that anyone can do.

The first thing you’ll outsource is lead generation. No more sending proposals on your own, a cheap 2-4 dollar per hour virtual assistant can do that just fine.

This is what scaling your business is. You leverage the time of other people to not only find more clients but also deliver the service itself.

There are huge amounts of competent freelancers who can perform your service for a fraction of what your clients pay you.

Like I said, most freelancers are competing on price instead of on value despite them being competent and exceptional at what they do!

You now use this to your advantage and HIRE THEM to work for YOU!

Since you can sell your service at a premium price, you can easily afford to pay the wages of those other freelancers. And you’ll still be earning 50% or more profit despite having all the work done for you!

You’re business may end up looking like this:

You’ll have 5-10 clients, being handled by 2 freelancers and a VA who is constantly sending out proposals. And perhaps a project manager who makes sure that everything goes smoothly…

So you’ll get a calendar filled with sales calls with clients who can pay top-dollar for your service without any work on your part (other than training the virtual assistant).

And you’ll be getting paid for work that you yourself are not doing.

And you’ll have the free time to enjoy the money you earn or perhaps grow your business even more, taking it to the next level of $50,000+ per month.

Summing it All Up

You can make fantastic money on upwork but you have to go about it the right way.

You need to deliver a good service, you need to learn sales and you need to see yourself as a business owner/consultant who delivers a premium service who gets paid premium prices!

Then you can scale and create a real business where you leverage the time of others to make a lot of money.

That’s how much you can make on Upwork.

But how do you do all that exactly?

In my Business Mastermind Insiders, I and my successful entrepreneur coaches train you to do all that from A-Z, step by step. It’s not rocket science but it is a lot of work.
