Get More Done By Exterminating Your To Do List In Your Business
In this article you will find out the little trick that I use to manage my time, myself and to make sure that I am never overbooked or learning too many habits at the same time.
Don’t have a complicated calendar.
A lot of people are using long calendars, planning their whole marketing plan months in advance. This is necessary in a bigger business, but I am running a small business with a few people so I keep it simple. I have a one week schedule and I never plan past one week besides on very rare occasions ,maybe once or twice per month.
How do I do this?
I use something very low tech, the alarm clock on my phone. My phone allows 15 alarms, so I can plan up to 15 things at any given moment. I only plan 7-8 things at any given day never any more. Maybe I have calls at 3 pm, 5 pm and 8 pm and 2-4 other things that i’m doing for the day.
What else should I schedule?
Habits. The habits that I am currently building are stretching and going to the gym. These are the things that are in my phone along with my work scheduling. I will never over schedule because there is only so much space in my alarm clock settings. Newbies should always schedule in certain processes and habits, like recording videos. For example, Monday 10 am Tuesday 5 pm Wednesday 9 pm. You should schedule those habits into your phone so you don’t ever miss doing these things.
What ever you have to do, schedule it in.
Habits are the most crucial things that keep your business afloat. You can never skip them. By actually scheduling and completing the tasks you will develop the habit instead of waking up 3 weeks later saying “I don’t have a business yet”. You don’t have a business yet because you don’t have the habit. You don’t have the habit because you didn’t schedule it in. So open up your alarm clock and schedule it in. Every Monday alarm goes off at 9 to film at 10. Every Tuesday alarm goes off at 10 to film at 11 etc.
Why I Hate To Do Lists:
A mistake I used to make was creating to do lists. I had way too many things scheduled. A to do list builds the habit of not doing things. I never get out of to do lists if I build lists that are 15 tasks long. So I don’t use a to do list anymore. I use a schedule with regular tasks that I put in and that’s it. I never schedule anything outside of that. I never have a phone call outside of 3 and 8 pm unless it is an emergency. I used to schedule completely random times like 2 pm and 5 am, but now I only schedule very specific times of the day. I know that I never have to do a phone call outside of those hours.
Try this out!
With this rule I have complete control over my schedule. My sleeping schedule fixed itself. I have a lot more time during the day and the hours don’t just disappear. It will help you put your whole life in schedule, help you learn new habits and simplify your business!
That’s it! That’s all I have about scheduling. I’m not the most organized person but I do manage to run my whole business by myself. Thanks, if you have any questions comment below.
